How to stay longer in Zagreb?

We were asking ourselves this question by the end of the day. Needless to say, we think this is a great city. It is so relaxing!

We ventured out to Maksimir Park today, Zagreb’s equivalent of Stanley Park. Like everything else in Zagreb, it has just enough visitors to feel well-loved. It is forested in large oak trees and is full of trails to small lakes, cafes, and Zagreb’s zoo. The adults were not so interested in the zoo, so we conveniently failed to mention this zoo to the boys. This ended up being fine. The boys were happy chasing butterflies, sighting birds and attempting to feed small apples to the red-eared sliders in the lake.

We had the best meal of the trip this evening, too. The big boys were completely tickled by the serious foodie vibe of the place. We opted for the surprise 4 course tasting menu with local wine pairings. Our waiter was a happy food nerd too, and so everybody felt pretty special. He loved story-telling about each course and glass of wine (right down to the exact temperature) and the boys (big ones) were virtually blushing with all of the attention. At the end of the meal, we slapped down our 650 kuna (plus juicy tip) with pleasure. This was a bargain at approx. $110 Canadian for the whole meal.

Something that needs mentioning: my brain often plays me songs that perfectly compliment how I feel. Maybe your brain does this too. I find this completely delightful. Anyhow…I noticed this morning that my brain has been playing “Folsom Prison Blues”. I am aware that this may be too much information, but I have been completely constipated for the last few days. Yet another brilliant song choice, I must say.

OK…you don’t know this, but some time has lapsed and Stephen and Dave are utterly confused to my reference to Johnny Cash. So you get how perfect it is, here are the lyrics that keep repeating in my head:

I hear the train a-comin’
It’s rolling round the bend
And I ain’t seen the sunshine
Since I don’t know when…

I’m stuck in Folsom Prison
And time keeps dragging on…
But that train keeps a rollin’
On down to San Antone

  1. We got the biggest laugh over your constipation problem good choice of lyrics! Maybe you should try some of Quentin’s stool softener. We are off to Hornby tomorrow, we are bringing Isla & Juniper back with us for an overnight stay. Rena and Zach will cycle down Thursday. Should be fun! Love to all,
