Low Impact Housing?

I am engaged in a project that brings together the K-1’s with a group of grade 4’s at the school.  We are designing our own community from the roots up.  Tomorrow, we are going to look at the type of housing we might possibly choose for the residents of our community.  I’m going to show them the photos below and have some discussion on which types are best for families and good for the environment too.  They will then choose a type to construct out of old shoe boxes.  Step 2 will involve placing their houses on a large piece of green fabric and then asking them to imagine if they had to find houses for 100 families.  The point of the exercise is to get them to see just how much forest is used up when you need to provide single family homes for everyone.  We’ll see how it goes!
